Taking Pride in International Women’s Day

As young women volunteering at an international NGO, honoring
International Women’s Day is very important to the Peace Boat US
intern team.

“Being an intern for an international NGO as a young woman reminds me
everyday just how lucky I am to be exposed to all the great work being
done for girls my age and for women worldwide, many of whom are not as
fortunate.” – Margarita Davidova

“As a woman working as an intern for an international NGO, I know that
I am not doing this just for me. I believe that every step forward
that a woman makes contributing to a more peaceful and equal world is
one she makes not only for herself, but for women before her
and for women to come. Progress does not happen overnight, and it is
not achieved alone. Today is a wonderful chance to celebrate the
solidarity that is feminism, and an opportunity to express gratitude
to every women and feminist of the past and present striving to make
this world a more just place for women and for humankind, thank you
all.” – Claire Jolly

Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. Providing women and girls with equal access to education, health care, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes will fuel sustainable economies and benefit societies and humanity at large.

As a part of the UN Women’s Step It Up initiative, Peace Boat has done
its part in the effort to empower women by supporting the women of the Kuna community in Panama in their local fair trade project of Mola
handicraft. Take initiative and stand up for gender equality by supporting girls and women in your local community, and by spreading the message of global sustainable development.
